STAGE FLASH
Date: 24.10.2009
Day: 2 Flash No: 14
Special Stage: SS12, HALFWAY 2 Distance: 18.37 Km
Weather: Wet, cloud, strong winds
Road Conditions: Slippery, rutted, very deep puddles in places. Safety car came out of stage with a puncture

1: Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena
“I am really happy, it’s been a really good day, especially with those two stages in the morning. We have had a very good drive with no mistakes, and are here with a good lead, and are ready for tomorrow.”

3: Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen
“It’s definitely not been a good day and I don’t understand why it hasn’t gone as I’d hoped. Tomorrow is the last day of this year as far as I am concerned so I will just have to go flat out and see what happens.”

11: Petter Solberg/Phil Mills
“If it wasn’t for the wipers this morning it could have been a really good day. On this last stage I was actually faster than Loeb but then lost some time after a small mistake. But I am definitely getting faster all the time.”

2: Dani Sordo/Marc Marti
“That was really hard. I lost some time at the end of the stage but the car felt really nice and fast.”

12: Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia
“We had no problems, with no mistakes. It has been a good day for us and we look forward to tomorrow.”

6: Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerud
“What can I say? I had fun in the car and kept it nice and tidy. Where I can push I do.”

5: Matthew Wilson/Scott Martin
“We went wide on one of the corners and after then it felt really strange, like something is knocked out of alignment.”

8: Conrad Rautenbach/Daniel Barritt
First to come through with a full light pod on bonnet. “It hasn’t been a great day to be honest but we are still here so will hope for better things tomorrow.”

4: Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Antilla
“I hope I can find some faster pace tomorrow. It wasn’t good but not bad. To be honest nothing amazing.”

16: Aaron Burkart/Michael Kolbach
“The second loop has not been so good and we are losing power when we should be pushing harder.”

15: Khalid Al Qassimi/Michael Orr
“It was a good day today with a lot of things happening. There were so many slippery corners and some good moments. Overall I am happy.”

17: Steve Perez/Paul Spooner
“That was a big bold stage, really great. These guys ahead of us are going at such a pace. It was so good to be in a WRC car on this stage.”

39: Eyvind Brynildsen/Denis Giraudet
“Everything is perfect and I am really happy to be leading class by 2min. We just go through the forest at a good pace.”

31: Martin Prokop/Jan Tománek
“I am happy to get to the end of the second day. The car is working well.”

47: Armindo Araújo/Miguel Ramalho
“Overheating a lot of times. Not a good sign. The engine temperature is very high.”

46: Patrik Sandell/Emil Axelsson
“A much better afternoon. We had been able to push as fast as we could this afternoon, thanks to the mechanics.”

33: Toshi Arai/Glenn MacNeall
“Happy to be here! Not so happy with my times – maybe I need to be braver tomorrow.”

64: Martin Semerad/Bohuslav Ceplecha
“It has been a nice day, but not so good this morning. It is the first time I have reached the second day without having to resort to SuperRally

45: Patrik Flodin/Göran Bergsten
We are pleased with the way it has gone today. It is hard to focus when you are not going for anything.”

50: Nasser Al-Attiyah/Giovanni Bernacchini
“Disappointed yesterday but that’s rallying. Today was much better.”

66: Dennis Kuipers/Kees Hagman
“A good day, with the second loop better. Good to see the Dutch fans cheering us.”

32: Bernardo Sousa/Jorge Carvalho
“Bad second day with a loose rear wheel in the morning and now the car is losing power this afternoon.”

65: Mark Tapper/Jeff Judd
“Not a bad day but we bent something on the left of the car and lost some time. I think have given the mechanics a lot of work to do…”

68: Rene Kuipers/Erwin Mombaerts
“Conditions are good but it is getting dark now and the conditions are difficult.”

49: Giorgio Bacco/Nicola Arena
“It is very hard for me at night with lights because I wear glasses.”

48: Hermann Gassner Junior/Katharina Wuestenhagen
“I am not so good with lights, and not used to it.”

61: Nico Thomas/Angelos Loizides
“It is night now and I take it carefully with no mistakes. I want to reach the finish tomorrow.”

38: Gábor Mayer/Robert Tagai
“I still have no steering like yesterday. My arms are dropping off.”

74: Trond Lyseng/Pål Iversen
“I took it slowly in there. The lights are not so good I think and I was slower than this morning.”

83: Tomaz Kaucic/Peter Zorenc
“Happy to be home, it’s the end of a crazy day. I have to think a lot about the roads and tomorrow will be another incredible day.”

72: Wug Utting/Max Utting
“We had to drive the stage with a broken track control arm which wasn’t good. The only thing holding the wheel on was the wing!”

81: Patrick Anglade/Hans-Peter Loth
“We are still leading the class but the afternoon was not so good with a bent steering arm. We try to keep our cushion at the front.”

71: Eamonn Boland/MJ Morrissey
“The car is barely moving, and I just hope we can get it back to service.”

80: Burcu Cetinkaya/Çiçek Güney
“It was a better day until the last stage when I had a flat tyre. On this stage I noticed the steering was not straight. When the steering wheel is at centre the car is not going straight.”

84: Bader Al Jabri/Stephen McAuley
“Absolutely amazing. This is the first time I have rallied in the dark. I look forward to tomorrow when I can gain more experience.”

69: Peter Stephenson/Jim Burns
“Terrible. We had to change the front bumper and I cannot fit my light pods on this one. Really unhappy.”

77: Giuseppe Dettori/Marco Corda
Reported off on a hairpin. Crew out and OK

78: Paulo Nobre/Edu Paula
“It is very different. We make some night rallies in Brazil but this is really a special stage, with lights.”

76: Craig Breen/Gareth Roberts
“Gone better today. The car who was holding us up in the last stage went off so we could really let rip. The Championship is still in my grasp so we keep on pushing.”

79: Emre Yurdakul/Burak Erdener
“We enjoyed that very much. The car feels brilliant and we are second in the Fiesta class and I want to push Craig for first place.”

90: Sander Pärn/Ken Järveoja
“Very happy despite problems today. It is good to make the finish and the darkness didn’t bother us too much.”

93: Jean-Thierry Vacheron/Sylvain Trombert
“The dark is not good as I wear glasses and I find it hard to see. Tomorrow will be better.”

87: Tom Cave/Craig Parry
“A good day. We clawed back five of the fifteen minutes we lost yesterday although we went into another field again today but this time managed to drive straight out!”

95: Kit Leigh/Tim Leigh
“We have just had a puncture three miles back. It was the front left. We had to stop and change as it would have caused damage if we continued.”

LAND ROVER CHALLENGE:

204: George Morrison/Curtis McKertie
“We came to a left hander and just kept sliding. I thought we had lost it.”

206: Alan Paramore/Gari Hazelby
“The lights have started flickering on the front which made it difficult. We lost power on the last stage and lost time to our rivals but tried to pull back today.”

205: Duncan Lilwall/Craig Teasdale
“Very good, pleased to make it this far. It is very hard in there because of the fading light.”

202: Steve Partridge/Adam Entwhistle
“That was quite eventful. I don’t mind driving at night but we have no lights inside. The navigator’s light failed and we had to use the light from his mobile phone to get through!”
