Stage Flash SS7 - Crychan 1 - Driver Comments
Did you know:
Wales Rally GB is the British and final round of the 16-round FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). It is one of only six events that have retained their unbroken World Championship status since the WRC was established in 1973.

Leg: 2
Flash No: 9
Special Stage: SS7 Crychan 1
Distance: 19.56Km
Weather: Sunny but cold
Road Conditions: Slippy, muddy

1: Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena
“The conditions are not bad this morning. I’ve got no problems today. For the moment I’m braking very early and trying to be as smooth as possible. Everything is going to plan. I’m doing what I have to – there will be no attack.”

2: Dani Sordo/Marc Marti
“The stage was OK. It’s nice without the fog. The car is feeling fine.”

3: Marcus Gronholm/Timo Rautiainen
“There’s no stress and no pressure as there’s nothing I can do about Sebastien. We will see what happens, but this is one big day and there’s another big day tomorrow. Anything can still happen.”

4: Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen
“I lost time there, but Marcus has done these stages many times before he so he knows them better than I do. I was too careful in the middle section. There’s no problems with the car – just my pace.”

5: Manfred Stohl/Ilka Minor
“It’s quite slippery in places.”

7: Petter Solberg/Philip Mills
I spun on the first right hander. I don’t know why, it just went around. I did the same thing yesterday, although today’s spin was a lot slower – it’s getting boring to keep doing that.”

8: Chris Atkinson/Stephane Prevot
“It’s OK. It’s a bit hotter in the car than yesterday. I’ve got a bit better balance with the car, too. I lost a lot of time yesterday, so I’m playing catch-up with Matthew Wilson.”

9: Jari-Matti Latvala/Miika Antilla
“The stage was pefect. It’s very good to get going again after yesterday’s nightmare in the final stage. I’m enjoying it again, and I hope to get back in the points.”

10: Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerund
“I am trying to be as fast as I can. The time’s okay, but I am trying my best.”

11: Luis Perez Companc/Jose Maria Volta
“It’s much better conditions today. We can see the road at last. That stage was a bit slippery in some points.”

16: Matthew Wilson/Michael Orr
“That was OK. That’s not a bad start. I made a couple of mistakes and so the time’s encouraging. Chris Atkinson is only a little bit faster than me. Maybe I was pushing on a bit too hard, but it’s a good start and I took 5s off Manfred.”

18: Jan Kopecky/Filip Schovanek
“It’s very nice to see the sun shine but the stage is a bit muddy in places.”

19: Sebastien Lindholm/Tomi Tuominen
Unconfirmed reports suggest the Suzuki SX4 WRC has stopped on the way to stage seven with steering problems.

20: Mads Ostberg/Ole Kristian Unnerud
“It’s great to see the sun again, but it’s still difficult. The grip is good in places, but then you hit mud and there’s none. I’m not used to these conditions, and I’m still learning.”

21: Andreas Mikkelson/Ola Floene
“We are getting better. I have a good feeling with the car but there are still lots of places where I could have more confidence. We are going well even though the steering wheel is over to the right a bit. I won my first rally around these so stages, so it’s good to be back.”

24: Conrad Rautenbach/David Senior
“It’s really slippery being first on the road. There’s no lines or braking points from other cars to follow, which would help me. My tactics are the same today as yesterday – to get through and maybe up the pace a little bit.”
