Budding artist Glen McDonald from Great Yarmouth had his dream come true this week, when his design for a rally car's livery won the annual Art Car competition. The initiative from Wales Rally GB, the final round of the FIA World Rally Championship, gave school children across Britain the chance to have their designs showcased on a world class stage, from 29 November - 2 December.
Glen, aged 12 from Great Yarmouth High School, has been chosen as the winner of Art Car for his design called 'Carbon footprint'. The year eight pupil's design impressed judges with its clear environmental message. The 'canvas' for Glen's Art Car design has been provided by Wales Rally GB drivers Steve and Tony Graham, who have put forward their bio-diesel fuelled Vauxhall Astra for the exciting new look.

Glen and his family are the lucky winners of a VIP Wales Rally GB package, where they will get to watch his design in action as the Art Car tackles the Welsh forests and valleys, as well as a special stage in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. This year, in an exciting twist to proceedings, the Art Car along with all competitors, will also have to tackle night stages, one of the toughest challenges in the world of rallying.

The Art Car competition, now in its second year, has been revamped with the use of a bio-diesel car. It is a symbol of the efforts being made to educate future generations of the need to preserve the planet. The use of bio-diesel is increasing in the world of motorsport, with the Le Mans 24-Hour race being won by a car using this fuel. In time, the Graham brothers hope to offset all of the carbon emissions of their rally team.

Andrew Coe, chief executive of Wales Rally GB, stated: "This year's Art Car has been a fantastic opportunity for school children to put their stamp on Wales Rally GB. We are pleased to have inspired so many budding designers, whether their futures lie in motorsport or another British industry. We are now all looking forward to seeing the design once it has been applied to the car and in action at Wales Rally GB."
