| Last night (Friday 23 October) Cardiff Blues' Darren Morris and Gary Powell put preparations for the club's Magners League match against Ospreys today on hold, to take time out to experience the thrills and excitement of the finale of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship in Wales. | |||||
| Welsh and British and Irish Lions international, Morris, and fellow prop Powell, witnessed first hand on the Sweet Lamb stage the epic duel that is taking place between Championship leader Mikko Hirvonen and reigning champion Sebastien Loeb. With years of experience at the top level of rugby union, both players know all about handling the pressure of elite sport as the two drivers bid for title glory in the WRC. Darren Morris said: "As people know, Welsh fans are hugely passionate for their rugby, but I also witnessed that same level of enthusiasm out on the stages - it was tremendous. We've had some typical Welsh weather but that doesn't stop them, and when you see the cars come flying past you know why they make the effort!" Gary Powell added: "Darren and I have always shown an interest in the rally down here and this was a superb opportunity to see two of the greatest drivers in the world close up. As professional sportsmen we enjoy seeing the skill of others and with the stakes so high for both Sebastien and Mikko, it really is fascinating to watch. It was also a good way for us both to relax ahead of the match in Cardiff."
