Clocaenog Information

Clocaenog is a large forestry complex located west of Ruthin, last used by the Rally of Great Britain in 1996. The recent harvesting work has created two clear unobstructed viewing areas showcasing a very fast stage with several areas that are quick and technical.

CAR PARK C

Open from 08:00 on Thursday 10 November

Car park C is located to the South of the stage and gives easy access by way of a 15-20 minute walk. From the car follow signs out of the car park to the stage.

  • From exit point A turn left at the public road and then right onto the first forestry road which will enable access to the mid-point which has a clear viewing area due to recent harvesting in the area. Cars approach from a narrow approach road to a fast left turn into an immediate fast sweeping right with ample viewing on the banking to view the sequence of bends.

A short distance further on is a downhill tight hairpin right, with excellent viewing due to the recent harvest.

Further viewing is also available down the narrow path which has a square right at the bottom - the approach to it is very quick and there is a deceptive left hander 100m beforehand.

  • From exit point B follow signs to the exit and cross the public road into the main complex, continue along the forest road and you will arrive at the stage. Viewing here is very limited and restricted, with no stage access to the right. Follow the signs and path which give access to a sequence of fast flowing bends where viewing is restricted.

A further short walk leads to a harvested area that has excellent viewing with cars approaching from a narrow approach road into a fast left turn and then into an immediate fast sweeping right with ample viewing on the banking to appreciate the sequence of bends.
A short distance further on is a downhill tight hairpin right, with excellent viewing due to the recent harvest.

CAR PARK D

Open from 08:00 on Thursday 10 November

There is a walk of about 20 minutes with a short climb of a medium gradient towards the end.

From the car park turn left onto the public road and follow signs to the stage. Once at the stage there is ample elevated viewing across a large harvested area. Cars approach this junction very quickly to take a square left located on a crest.

From this location you can gain access to several areas of the stage, the centre section being very fast with some excellent viewing.
When you reach the stage, if you turn right a short walk of about 200m will bring you to a junction where you can see the cars approaching from the fastest section of the stage - this is excellent viewing and should be spectacular as they approach the junction for the square left turn.

Walking further on will bring you to another junction where the cars will be at maximum speed as they take the small jump at the crossroads. There is a crossing here to give access to a wide open hairpin which has a high speed approach. This has previously been used as the location to measure competitors' top speeds on events and has excellent viewing, again due to the recent harvesting work as well as elevated areas to stand.

Directions to car parks C and D
Access to both car parks is through the town of Ruthin which is very easily reached via the M56 / A55, exiting and heading for Mold, and then onto Ruthin. Once in Ruthin follow signs for the B5105, Cerrig-y-Drudion, Clawdd Newydd. Car Parks will be sign-posted off the B5105.

Anyone approaching from the West will travel on the A5, then leave at the village of Cerrig-y-Drudion and join the B5105 sign-posted Ruthin. The car parks will be on the left as you proceed along the road. No access will be allowed to any other areas of the stage.
