| Rachel Cavers is press officer at M-Sport, the company that runs Ford's teams in the FIA World Rally Championship. | |||||||
| First of all I guess I better tell you a little about what it is I do. I'm contracted by The Inside Line to work as the press officer for M-Sport. M-Sport is the company chosen by Ford to run its teams in the WRC, and is a busy outfit of over 200 employees with an impressive headquarters called Dovenby Hall based in the heart of Cumbria.
As the press officer for M-Sport, I look after the M-Sport Stobart Ford World Rally Team, the Munchi's Ford World Rally Team, M-Sport's entries in the Super 2000 World Rally Championship (S-WRC) and any other private customer entries in the WRC. That means I'm extremely busy all the time! I'm required to travel to each of the WRC events and, in between rallies, I'm based back at M-Sport HQ, preparing for the next rally and trying to generate more PR opportunities for our teams and for M-Sport as a company. Wales Rally GB is an extremely important event for us because it's our home event and it's also the home rally for our M-Sport Stobart driver, Matthew Wilson. Last year we were able to secure an exclusive feature on ITV's Daybreak, an interview on BBC Radio 2, Radio 4 and various features for consumer magazines. Over the past few weeks I've been busy approaching various media outlets in order to gain more coverage at this year's event. It can be an exhausting process, but we've managed to line up features with two of the country's biggest selling newspapers, as well as some interviews and filming whilst at the event. Matthew is also supporting the Wales Rally GB tie-up with the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), so he's doing a photo shoot with his Ford Fiesta RS World Rally Car next week to help promote safer driving amongst young drivers. Hopefully we'll have a local Welsh celebrity along to the Ford service area for one of the days too, so watch this space! |
