On Chris Atkinson..
“Chris went a bit wide on the exit of the corner and hit the bank quite hard. The good news was that everything we’ve done on improving side impact and rollcage safety worked. Chris was airlifted to hospital, but that’s routine in such a high speed accident. He was checked over by the doctors and they were happy with his condition, so he came back to the hotel last night. I’m sure he’ll have a few bruises this morning and reflect on the accident, but he’ll be okay.”

On the tyre situation...
“We have to look at something to solve the problems we had, as the calendar’s changing and we could have this situation again. Pirelli have done a very good job this year, but with the changing conditions of yesterday, with lots of grip, a little grip and no grip, it was very hard to have a tyre that worked all the time.
“We don’t have gravel crews anymore, so the really slippery spots aren’t highlighted to the drivers ahead of the stages. That’s why it’s so hard.
“We’ve just got to work with Pirelli for a solution. We’ve already started that work in the background, and we’ll get there. Long-term we need to work out what to do on gravel to clear mud and break through icy sections, more than anything. We’re 50 per cent of the way there, but we’ll talk between the teams, Pirelli and the FIA to get a solution.”
