Loeb wins Rally Argentina
30 March 2008, 9:30 pm
Citroen’s Sébastien Loeb secured his fourth consecutive Rally Argentina win in the 4th round of the FIA World Rally Championship.
The 39th win of the Frenchman’s career came despite challenging conditions across all days. A mix of rain, fog and low-lying cloud made stages difficult at times. Team-mate Danni Sordo took 3rd place overall, giving Citroen a double podium victory.

Loeb now leads the drivers’ championship by five points over Mikko Hirvonen, who despite dominating the opening stages, lost his top-spot on the leader board finishing fifth in Argentina. The Finn never fully recovered from mechanical problems on day one.

Australian Chris Atkinson finished two minutes 33 seconds behind Loeb in his Subaru Impreza.

Welshman Phil Mills and driver Petter Solberg were forced to retire on the final day, despite starting in second position, after an electrical failure stopped the Subura Impreza. The pair are now on nine points in the drivers’ championship, with 11 events remaining.

Stobart’s Gigi Galli finished 7th overall in Argentina, earning two points which put him fifth in the drivers’ championship.

Things did not go so well for Brit Matthew Wilson who had to make an unfortunate exit on the penultimate stage due to faulty suspension on his Ford Focus RS.

Suzuki’s Toni Gardemeister and Per-Gunnar Andersson now stand in joint 14th and joint 16th place respectively in the drivers’ championship, following a string of problems for both drivers on Saturday’s stages which forced retirement.

The next and fifth event in the 15-round World Rally Championship is the Jordan Rally which makes its debut in the FIA World Rally Championship on 25th to 27th April.
