| 2007 also a saw a number of firsts for the event, including the rally’s service park being relocated to Swansea’s prestigious Waterfront Development, in a bid to take the rally to new audiences. Once again the WRGB visited the Millennium Stadium for a super special stage on the Saturday of the event, where 26,500 rally fans were treated to action from the cream of the WRC and British crops, a no-holds barred stunt show and an automotive history parade to celebrate the event’s 75th anniversary.
Elsewhere, over 8,000 people attended the ceremonial start in Cardiff on the Thursday evening, again one of the highest figures seen for that element of the last round of the championship. And spreading the news of the event across the country, the marketing campaign behind the rally took its message to in excess of 180 million people, or three times for every member of the population.
“We are extremely proud of the success of 2007’s Wales Rally GB, the event’s 75th anniversary,” explained Andrew Coe, Chief Executive of IMS, the organisation behind Wales Rally GB.
He continued: “With the support and backing of Wales, we are striving, constantly, to improve the concept and bring fresh thinking to the event. 2007 was a fabulous year for us but we will not stand still. As we prepare for WRGB 2008, the team is looking at some extremely exciting initiatives that will continue to move the concept of world championship rallying in Britain forward.”
