Stage Flash SS15 - Trawscoed - Driver Comments
Did you know:
The most experienced Rally GB driver is 47 year old Gavin Cox from Grindleford, near Sheffield, who starts for the 26th time. Last year WRGB organisers allocated “25” as his start number and presented him with a crystal vase to mark his achievement. He eventually finished 26th overall!

Leg: 3
Flash No: 16
Special Stage: SS15 Trawscoed
Distance: 28.24km
Weather: Intermittent downpours
Road Conditions: Slippy, muddy

1: Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena
“Just two more stages to go, and we have done them both once now. Sure, teh conditions are tricky, but I am trying not to push too hard.”

2: Dani Sordo/Marc Marti
“It’s okay, much better grip than I expected. But I am worried because the engine keeps going pop, pop, pop. We may have a misfire.”

3: Marcus Gronholm/Timo Rautiainen
“Yes, it has been a little bit of a desperate rally for me this weekend. It isn’t looking good for the championship, so I’ll just concentrate on finishing.”

4: Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen
“This morning I was maybe a bit too cautious on the first stage, but I need to be sure everything is alright. It’s looking good now – just service and two stages to go. I will go fast enough to keep my concentration, but not too fast.”

5: Manfred Stohl/Ilka Minor
“It’s okay in there – just as difficult as on every day. We are taking it easy now, just trying to finish the rally.”

7: Petter Solberg/Philip Mills
“We had a puncture very early in the stage. It was the front left – it made right-hand corners really difficult. We didn’t stop because the mousse kept the tyre up.”

9: Jari-Matti Latvala/Miika Antilla
The Focus arrived at the stage finish with some damage to the front nearside. He said: “It’s very difficult in there. You have to be careful not to run too wide in the corners. There are also a couple of dips in there where the suspension bottoms out. Also, the mud builds up on the car, which puts added pressure on it.”

8: Chris Atkinson/Stephane Prevot
“The fact the wipers weren’t working was no problem in there, as there was no rain. I was going as fast as I could. I’m not even close to be disheartened – it’s beyond my control what’s going on.”

10: Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerund
“It’s difficult conditions today, so I’m concentrating on not making mistakes.”

33: Loris Baldacci/Rudy Pollet
“It’s very hard – I have lost my power-steering, so I have to use my muscles.”

34: Mark Higgins/Scott Martin
“We have lost fourth gear and the rear shock absorbers are finished.”

36: Juho Hanninen/Mikko Markkula
“We had a puncture on the rear nearside 4-5km from the stage finish.”

44: Alessandro Bettega/Simone Scattolin
“It was more slippy in there than yesterday’s stages. I had a spin in SS14 which cost me some time, so I’m just trying to keep my rhythm. The three guys in front are pulling away, but I’m trying to be steady. I’m not unhappy with fourth as it’s my first time in a Gp N car.”

45: Mirco Baldacci/Giovani Agnese
“I’m still not happy with the car – we have engine problems. But we need to keep pushing to the end, as I want some championship points.”

46: Armindo Araujo/Miguel Ramalho
“I don’t believe it! I had two punctures in there. I stopped to change the front left and then realised that the front right was punctured as well. I only had one spare of course, and lost a lot of time.”

47: Andreas Aigner/Klaus Wicha
“We had a slow puncture after 10km and I couldn’t feel it. We turned into a corner and hit mud at high speed. The wheel was full of mud when we stopped and it took a lot of time to change it.”

49: Stepan Vojtech/Michal Ernst
“No punctures, no problems – not like the guys ahead, I think.”

50: Patrik Flodini/Maria Andersson
“About 5km in the rain got so heavy that the wipers couldn’t cope. I’m just driving for a finish now.”

53: David Higgins/Ieuan Thomas
“Those stages are a bit more twisty, which suits a Subaru. Anyway, we are on a bit of a push in there, trying to catch the car in front.”

59: Guy Wilks/Phil Pugh
“We were very lucky in there. About 1km from the end of the stage the car died. I looked down and saw the cut-out switch had jumped round.”

81: Robert Swann/Dann Garrod
“We caught the car in front again – just like on the last stage. We’ll have to ask for a bigger gap between us, as I get close but he won’t move over.”

84: Darren Gass/Neil Shanks
“A very slow time. It’s getting very rough and dangerous as the holes are huge. It’s horrendous.”

89: Rob Gill/Anders Howard
“We’re still here, having some fun. I’m testing myself as I’ve no trophy to go for. The conditions are bad – but that’s exactly what I do this rally for!”

101: James Wozencroft/Christopher Ridge
“We’re really cruising round now so that we can take the British championship title. As a result my driving’s not so good, but it’s so rough I have to be careful. It’s nerve-wracking.”

104: Lorna Smith/Joanna Oakley
“It’s tough in there, so rough and slippy. The tighter corners are so rough you just have to slow down and drive round.”

105: Hugh Evans/Iestyn Williams
“I’m happy – I’m getting there. I’m clawing my way back. Last night I was 12th in the BRC, which might give us third in the BRC Teams Championship.”

108: Stephan Davis/Neil Foulkes
“I’ve just got to finish to win the BRC Super 1600 title, but the clutch is going and the battery is flat.”

109: Jason Pritchard/Martin Jones
“The car’s not revving right – it’s an ECU problem. I’m overtaking three or four cars a stage despite that, and sometimes it clears.

113: Martin Laverty/Andrew Roughead
“It’s rough and tough in there and we are just plodding along. My fillings are taking a pounding, though.”

114: James Everard/Mark Ammonds
“We caught Luke Pinder, but we couldn’t get close enough for him to see us because of all the mud he was throwing up.”

115: Burcu Cetinkaya/Cicek Guney
“Tony Jardine caught me in the last four kilometres of the stage and he actually pushed me. I couldn’t see safely to let him go. In the previous stage I had let him past.”

123: Supradip Dey Roy/Bradley Magnus
“We slid off the road and lost more than two minutes, but the spectators helped us push it off a bank.”
