Did you know: The most experienced Rally GB driver is 47 year old Gavin Cox from Grindleford, near Sheffield, who starts for the 26th time. Last year WRGB organisers allocated “25” as his start number and presented him with a crystal vase to mark his achievement. He eventually finished 26th overall!
Leg: 1
Flash No:2
Special Stage: SS2 Resolfen 1
Distance: 25.08Km
Weather: Dull and overcast with some fog
Road Conditions: Slippy
1: Sebastien Loeb/Daniel Elena
“This was less foggy but it is still tricky in places. I am not driving at the limit and not taking any risks but I still need to push hard to get my concentration.”
3: Marcus Gronholm/Timo Rautiainen
“It was OK in there but I am trying to build a rhythm in there. It’s a case of getting up to a good speed but already it is slippy and rough. I am not taking risks at the moment but I can go faster.”
4: Mikko Hirvonen/Jarmo Lehtinen “I am pushing hard but I know that this is just the beginning of the rally. That was a good time and it was a fun stage but it is scary to go flat out in these conditions.”
2: Dani Sordo/Marc Marti
“This stage was better and the fog was not so bad – it’s very difficult in these conditions.”
7: Petter Solberg/Philip Mills
“I didn’t have any grip in there and it was a real struggle. It’s getting better though but there is a long way to go.”
10: Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerund
“I am driving as fast as I can in these conditions but lost 30sec in there with a puncture.”
9: Jari-Matti Latvava/Miika Anttila
“That was not too bad in there but my confidence is low because of this fog. The notes are fine but there is something not right with my rythm...”
8: Chris Atkinson/Stephane Prevot
“I am having a real struggle with the balance on this car today. Not sure if it is the set up or whether it is the tyres I’m using.”
5: Manfred Stohl/Ilka Minor
“That was not fantastic in there but it was OK. There is standing water in places so you have to be careful.”
11: Luis Perez Companc/Jose Maria Volta
“Very tricky this rally so far with mud and boulders everywhere. It means that I can’t attack hard. The car is OK but I am cautious.”
54: Gabriel Pozzo/Daniel Stillo
“Fog very bad in places but we are all OK...”
34: Mark Higgins/Scott Martin
“Not a good morning for me so far. We had a front puncture 4kms from the end of the stage. These are typical conditions for Rally GB though...”
45: Mirco Baldacci/Giovani Agnese
“Having a bad time of it so far. The gearbox was broken which meant that we have only got 4th gear. We hope to get it sorted out at Service.”
47: Andreas Aigner/Klaus Wicha
“We have a right rear puncture that occurred 10kms in stage. It was really bad luck.”
36: Juho Hanninen/Mikko Markkula
“OK for us but the rain is coming and going which makes it slippy in some places and dry in others.”
59: Guy Wilks/Phil Pugh
“I am just trying to react to what Higgins is up to. We need to get through this day with no problems.”
53: Niall McShea/Gordon Noble
“Very slippy and rough in places. I am ignoring Wilks and Higgins – they have a championship to go for whereas I just want to get to the end.”
60: Gwyndaf Evans/Huw Lewis
“I’ve done enough of these events to know that there is a long way to go before the finish...”
69: Wyn Humphreys/Ally Mackay
“I have been a bit too cautious on the first two stages but I have not been in the car for a long time and haven’t driven since the Trackrod rally. Trying to build up confidence again.”
81: Robert Swann/Darren Garrod
“We are struggling in these bad conditions and the car is crabbing a bit.”
