Wales Rally GB Entries Update

With two weeks to go before entries close on Friday 26th October, Wales Rally GB organisers have so far accepted 56 entries, a 10% increase compared with this time last year. In 2006 the Cardiff-based event proved to be the most popular rally in the World Rally Championship with 111 entries.
  • Early entries - from 23 countries - show 10% increase compared with 2006
  • 30 of the 40 places guaranteed for Amateur drivers now filled
  • 19 Production World Rally Championship contenders confirmed
  • British Rally Championship goes down to the wire on WRGB; six drivers in contention

So far, 23 nationalities are represented, including drivers from Barbados, New Zealand and the USA.

Of the 40 places guaranteed to amateur drivers, 30 have now been filled. Amongst them is Phillip Morrow (Lisburn, Co. Antrim) winner of the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge. His prize is a “works” drive with the Mitsubishi team in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship.

Wales Rally GB is the eighth and final round of the Production World Rally Championship and 19 of the 24 registered contenders have nominated the event as one of their six scoring rounds. Rounds six and seven of the Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship will be hosted by Wales Rally GB. After five rounds there are six drivers in contention for the title. Amongst the favourites are Championship leader Mark Higgins, with two outright wins, and Guy Wilks (Darlington, Co.
