The cost of passes for the 75th Anniversary event have been held at 2006 levels, starting at £5 for an adult, £2.50 for a child up to 15, to access the new Service Park in Swansea’s SA1 waterfront development. (These tickets cannot be purchased in advance.) Best value for money is the World Rally Pass - £90 for an adult, £45 for a child - which allows access to Shakedown on Thursday, all forest stage car parks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and the Service Park in Swansea on all four days. All adult tickets (with the exception of those for the Service Park) include a new style rally planner to help spectators get the most enjoyment from their visit to Wales Rally GB and a comprehensive, full colour official programme, worth £8.50. For spectators who want flexibility combined with value, there are individual Day Passes for each of the four days, starting at £15. All must be purchased in advance, although the Thursday Day Pass can also be bought on the day at the Service Park in Swansea. Tickets for the Cardiff special stage, run inside the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 1st December, can be purchased in advance or on the day. Spectators are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to secure the best prices and save as much as £8. For example, the Family ticket for 1 Adult accompanied by three children is £27 in advance; £35 on the day. The Millennium stage will also feature entertainment at 6pm, prior to the first rally car starting the 1 kilometre speed test at 7pm. Andrew Coe, Chief Executive of rally organisers IMS commented “Spectator numbers for the UK’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship have increased significantly over the past two years and we believe that this reflects the superb value for money which our event offers. We are delighted to continue this policy in 2007 and hope to attract many more rally fans to Wales in November, as well as families wishing to experience the spectacle of a world-class sporting event in relative comfort and safety.”
PR2. Ends. Notes for Journalists:This year's Wales Rally GB will be the 75th Anniversary of the event. Since its inception in 1932 the rally has been run 62 times; this year’s event will be the 63rd edition. Enforced stoppages have included World War 2, Suez Crisis (1957) and Foot and Mouth (1967). No “Overall Classification” was produced until 1953 when the event finished in Hastings and was won by Yorkshire husband-and-wife Team Ian and Pat Appleyard in a Jaguar XK120. Wales Rally GB is the British and final round of the 16-round FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). It is one of only six events that have retained their unbroken World Championship status since the WRC was established in 1973. Cardiff first hosted the event in 2000 and the Welsh Assembly Government has supported the event since 2003. WRGB is the sixth and final round of the Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship and the final round of the FIA Production World Rally Championship. Wales Rally GB is held annually and is the UK ’s biggest motor sport event. It is organised and promoted by International Motor Sports Ltd (IMS), the commercial arm of the Berkshire-based Motor Sports Association (MSA), the governing body for all UK motor sport.
